Naming of turning insert model


The model naming of turning inserts usually consists of a series of letters and numbers. Different manufacturers may have slightly different naming rules, but they usually include the following elements: insert type, shape, size, cutting direction, material, etc.

Firstly, the blade type usually refers to the type of blade indicated by letters. For example:

CC: ordinary turning insert

DC: carbide turning insert

VC: ceramic turning insert

SC: thread turning insert

Secondly, the blade shape. It refers to letters or numbers are used to indicate the shape of the blade, such as:

S: square blade

C: circular blade

T: triangular blade

D: diamond blade

Thirdly, the cutting direction, numbers are usually used to indicate the cutting direction of the blade, for example:

0: The main cutting angle is 0 degrees (generally used for nonmetallic materials).

1: The main cutting angle is 45 degrees.

2: The main cutting angle is 75 degrees.

Fourthly, the blade size, using numbers to indicate the size of the blade, for example:

08: indicates that the blade width is 8 mm.

16: indicates that the blade width is 16mm.

Finally, the cutting material, sometimes letters or numbers are used to indicate the cutting material suitable for the blade, such as:

P: Suitable for steel processing.

M: Suitable for processing stainless steel.

K: Suitable for cast iron processing.

Based on the above factors, a typical turning insert model may be similar to "DCMT11T304-MF", in which:

DCMT: carbide turning insert

11: Blade shape code (triangle)

T: The main cutting angle is 75 degrees.

304: Blade size code (width 3.18mm)

MF: Suitable for steel processing.
