According to the shape of the tap can be divided into which categories?
According to the shape of the tap can be divided into: straight groove tap, spiral groove tap, screw tip tap, pipe thread tap.
1.Straight groove tap:The cutting edge has a straight groove, which makes it easy for chips to accumulate in the groove.Commonly used in the processing of through holes and blind holes, suitable for the processing of short-chip materials, such as gray cast iron and so on. As the thread quality of straight flute tap is relatively low, so it is more suitable for the occasions that do not require high thread accuracy.

2. Spiral groove tap:The cutting edge part has a spiral groove, this design helps the cutting chips discharge along the spiral groove, reducing the resistance in the cutting process.Mainly used for machining blind holes with a depth of less than or equal to 3D (D is the diameter of the thread). Depending on the helix angle, different depths of threads can be processed. Spiral flute taps can process high-quality thread surface, applicable to the thread precision requirements of higher occasions.
3. Screw tip tap:The cutting edge is designed in a spiral shape, and the core size is larger, allowing chips to be discharged downwards and reducing cutting torque. It usually can only be used for processing through-hole, the length to diameter ratio of up to 3D ~ 3.5 D. Screw tip taps use the plastic deformation of the workpiece to process threads, so it is suitable for processing plastic materials. Due to the cutting process without chip generation, so the mechanical properties of the processed thread surface is improved, the surface roughness is high, and the thread strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance are also improved.
4. Pipe thread taps:Specially designed for the processing of pipe connection threads with special thread shapes and sizes.Mainly used for connection and sealing of pipeline system to ensure the safety and reliability of pipeline system.
