how to make a gear hob?
Making a Gear Hob is a complex and highly accurate process that requires the determination of design parameters including gear parameters and material selection prior to fabrication. The basic size and shape of the hob is determined according to the required gear parameters (e.g. number of teeth, module, pressure angle, etc.). According to the working conditions and requirements of the gear hob, select the appropriate material. Common gear hob materials include high-speed steel, carbide and so on.
Then the tool profile needs to be designed and manufactured. Calculate the theoretical profile of the gear hob according to the meshing principle of the gear and the required machining accuracy. Considering factors such as deformation and wear in actual machining, the theoretical profile is appropriately corrected to get the final tool profile.

According to the design parameters and tool profile, prepare suitable blank material. By turning, milling and other processes, the blank is machined into a rough blank close to the final shape. Finish the rough blank by grinding, lapping and other processes to ensure the accuracy and surface quality of the tool profile. Heat treatment is applied to the tool to improve its hardness and wear resistance. Common heat treatment processes include quenching and tempering.
Finally, the dimensions of the gear hob are inspected using precision measuring tools to ensure that they meet the design requirements. And contour inspection and performance testing are carried out.
