The best milling inserts for machining metal materials
To ensure machining efficiency, surface quality and tool life, choosing the right milling inserts can greatly enhance machining results.
Carbide milling inserts (tungsten carbide inserts) are recommended for machining conventional metal materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel.Carbide inserts have very high hardness and wear resistance, can maintain long tool life under high-speed cutting conditions, and can provide efficient cutting performance and stable machining quality. Contact our experts to learn more about carbide milling cutters.
For machining aluminum alloys, coated carbide milling cutters or CVD coated milling cutters are recommended. Choosing coated inserts with a low coefficient of friction (e.g. TiAlN, TiCN coatings) improves tool wear resistance and prevents sticking.

CBN (cubic boron nitride) inserts or PCD (diamond composite inserts) are recommended for machining high hardness steels, alloy steels and tool steels. CBN inserts are particularly suited to higher hardness steels, and for some high hardness steels or alloy steels, PCD inserts provide long service life, and are suitable for precision machining and ultra-high cutting speeds.
For machining titanium alloys, TiAlN coated carbide inserts or PVD coated inserts are recommended. the TiAlN coating enhances the tool's resistance to high temperatures, reduces heat buildup during cutting, and extends tool life.
