how are teeth arranged in end milling cutter?
The tooth arrangement of end milling cutters mainly depends on the type of cutter, application scenario and cutting performance requirements. It can be mainly categorized into straight teeth, beveled teeth, unequal tooth pitch and unequal helix angle, and wave edge.
1. Straight teeth: The teeth are arranged parallel to the axis of the milling cutter, and the tooth shape is straight. Suitable for light milling, with good rigidity, but poor cutting stability and prone to vibration. Commonly used for tiny diameter end mills and carbide milling cutters. Mainly used for light cutting of materials such as cast iron and low carbon steel.
2. Characteristics of helical teeth: The teeth are arranged in a spiral shape along the axis of the milling cutter, with common helix angles of 30°, 45°, and 55°. The cutting is steady, the impact is reduced, and it is suitable for higher feed rates. It is mainly used for efficient milling of stainless steel, alloy steel, and high-hardness materials. It is widely used in side milling, slot milling, cavity processing, etc.

3. Unequal tooth spacing and unequal helix angle features: unequal spacing between teeth or different helix angles (e.g. 35°/38° combination). Suitable for difficult-to-machine materials (e.g. titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys).
4. Wave Edge Characteristics: The cutting edge has a wavy shape and is usually used for rough machining. Suitable for efficient roughing of high hardness materials, such as cast iron and hardened steel. Suitable for applications such as deburring, casting trimming, etc.
If you have specific machining needs, you can contact us and we will recommend the right end mill tooth shape for you.
